History
Hot FM UK has been broadcasting on the internet since April 2005 having previously broadcast as a local community radio station on the FM frequency of 106.7, 101.6, 107.6 and 93.9 FM between 25th April 1995 and 12th February 2005.
The origins of Hot FM UK date back to 1995 when Alderney FM started broadcasting on 106.7 FM on 25th April 1995 using a low powered 100mW FM transmitter running on a 9 volt battery. It’s range was limited to a 500m radius. Following on from this the transmitter was upgraded to a stereo 50W model with RDS (Radio Data System) and broadcast across Slade Green and the local towns, including Erith, Belvedere, North End, Crayford, Barnehurst and Northumberland Heath, covering a radius of approximately 2 miles.
The station changed its name in 2002 to Hot FM and after a switch from FM to internet broadcasting in April 2005 (almost exactly 10 years since its first broadcast) the station became known as Hot FM UK to distinguish itself from other Hot FM’s from around the world.
Today it streams music 24 hours 7 days a week to a worldwide audience, picking up listeners from about 50 different countries and listening for 100’s of hours every month.
